Analytical and precision balance types used in laboratories are generally used for measurements that require high accuracy and precision. These balances are designed to precisely measure very small amounts of substances. There are two main types: analytical balances and precision balances. Here are the features and types of each:

 

1. Analytical Balance

Analytical balances are used for measurements that require very high accuracy. They usually have a sensitivity of 0.0001 grams (0.1 mg) and are used especially in chemistry and pharmaceutical laboratories. Analytical balances are generally:

 

Sensitivity: Can measure 0.0001 g (0.1 mg) or smaller.

Capacity: Usually between 100-200 grams.

Features: Usually comes with a draft protector (wind protector) cover and is protected to avoid being affected by the environment. It has a very sensitive electronic structure.

Areas of Use: Chemistry, biology, pharmaceutical products, quality analysis, toxicology and advanced research applications.

2. Precision Balance

Precision balances operate with slightly lower precision than analytical balances, but still provide very high accuracy. These balances usually operate with a precision of 0.001 grams (1 mg) and usually have larger measuring capacities. Precision balances have the following features:

 

Precision: Measures with a precision of 0.001 g (1 mg).

Capacity: Usually between 200-300 grams.

Features: Electronic displays, tare (zero) functions, and some models have features that can monitor environmental factors such as humidity and temperature.

Areas of Use: Chemical analysis, food industry, biological sampling, production, and quality control.

3. Other Types of Laboratory Balances

In addition to analytical and precision balances, there are other types of balances used for some special purposes:

 

Micro Balance: Can measure with a precision of 0.000001 grams (1 μg). It is usually used when very small samples need to be weighed.

Balance with Draft Shield: Used for precise weighing of large samples, usually models with protected areas to eliminate the effects of wind in addition to analytical balances.

 

Zere Balance: A type of balance that works electronically and zeros a certain weight, for example, weighing only the substance to be placed.

 

Liquid Balance: Special balances used for situations where liquids need to be weighed together with their volume.

 

4. Selection of Analytical and Precision Balance

The type of balance to be used is generally determined according to the needs of the laboratory, the precision requirements of the measurements to be made, and the processing capacity.

 

Analytical Balance: Preferred in applications requiring higher precision (for example, measuring very low amounts of chemicals).

 

Precision Balance: Provides sufficient precision for normal laboratory work and is used to measure larger samples.
