What is a conductivity meter?
A conductivity meter is a device used to measure the electrical conductivity of a liquid. Ions in the liquid carry electric current and are therefore related to the electrical conductivity of the liquid. Conductivity meters are used to measure this conductivity and is usually expressed in units such as microsiemens per centimeter (µS/cm) or millisiemens per centimeter (mS/cm).
Conductivity meters generally work like this:
- A conductivity meter uses a system of electrodes immersed in a liquid.
- This electrode system usually includes a pair of electrodes: one is the measuring electrode and the other is the reference electrode.
- The measuring electrode is used to measure the conductivity of ions in the liquid.
- The reference electrode provides the reference point of the system and helps ensure accurate measurement.
- When a current is applied, ions in the liquid move between these electrodes and create an electric current.
- This electric current is detected by the measuring electrode and the conductivity meter takes a measurement to determine the electrical conductivity of the liquid.
- The results are usually presented to the user on a screen or via a computer.
Conductivity meters are used in many industrial, laboratory and research applications. For example, conductivity meters are widely used in many areas such as monitoring water quality, controlling chemical processes, operating water treatment plants, and evaluating product quality in the food and beverage industry.
What is a tds meter?
A TDS meter is a device used to measure the amount of total dissolved solids (TDS) in a liquid. TDS refers to the total amount of minerals, salts, organic matter and other dissolved solids dissolved in the liquid.
TDS meters typically include a measuring electrode and a display. The conductivity of dissolved solids is measured by immersing the measuring electrode in the liquid. Dissolved solids in the liquid increase electrical conductivity, so the conductivity value measured through the measuring electrode is used to estimate the TDS value.
TDS meters display the TDS value in units usually expressed in ppm (parts per million) or mg/L (milligrams per liter). These devices are used in many applications such as evaluating the quality of drinking water, checking the suitability of aquarium water, determining the mineral content of irrigation water, and monitoring the quality of water used in industrial processes.
TDS meters provide the user with a fast, accurate and easy-to-use measurement to assess water quality and ensure appropriate action is taken. These devices are widely used in a variety of environments, from laboratories to field conditions.
